The next meeting of Pretoria Stoics will be on Monday evening 24 June at 18:30 at the usual venue, Karoo Cafe in Lynnwood Road, Pretoria. We’ll be discussing the need for virtue and what philosopher kings can mean for a modern world right now. We shall discuss Marcus Aurelius as a philosopher king, comparing his life to the ideal he described in his Meditations. Taking lessons from the Stoics, how can we retain equanimity and thrive under increasing uncertainty?
In case you’re wondering, the photograph is my puerile attempt at irony, or is it sarcasm?
If you have not done so yet, I suggest you getting a copy of Meditations; the George Long translation is a good one and you can get the Kindle version for only one dollar at Amazon at this link:
https://www.amazon.com/Meditations-Enhance…/…/ref=mt_kindle…
You can get a free audio book of the same George Long translation at this link:

There will no cost to attend the meeting, but you are expected to order something from the Karoo Cafe menu (even if only something to drink) and bring cash to pay for it.
